Dogs are rewarding, yet hard work
Dogs are a man’s best friend. In fact, dogs are so attached to man that man have started making superdogs, like superman. Well, I think that dogs are good, yet bad. I mean they keep you company and keep you safe, but they are also hard work. It’s true, that dogs have their faults, but that doesn’t make them any less. If you’re going to get a dog, are you ready to have your very, own, perfect, dog? Do you know what its like to have your very, own, dog?
I think that dogs are good, yet hard work. My first reason for why dogs are good is because they keep you company. Like everyone, sometimes I get nervous, or scared. As evidence, when I was leaving the house for a school play. First I was nervous, then I was scared, and lastly I got butterflies in my stomach. My dog circled me, and without a doubt, he had sensed my fear. This affected me greatly and made me feel better. A strong feeling built inside me, and I knew, that I had to do this for my dog. Thats why I think that dogs lift your spirits when you’re feeling low, or nervous. Another reason for why I think dogs keep you company is because they make you feel, and make sure that you know that they care about you, and I know that I am important to my dog. I feel like I should have someone who really cares about me. I mean besides my parents and sister(and maybe friends), who needs me? Well now I know that my dog needs me, and of course that he cares for me. When I leave for a holiday, my dog looks at me with big, sad, eyes, but when I come back he leaps and runs around crazy. This tells me that he cares for me and my family. Another example is that just recently, I had left my dog in India, as he couldn't take the flight to Singapore. So my family and me left him with his vet. Since he was very old, he died. He also didn’t have my family or my company. This shows that he needed my family and me to survive, in the same way as when we left for vacation. The last reason for why I think that dogs are good companions is because they are playful and kind, in their own way. This is a good thing because like everyone, sometimes I get bored. When you get bored you don’t know what to do or where to go. Luckily we’ve got a solution for this. Dogs! Dogs are the solution to your problem. My dog lit up the room like a beam of light when I was bored. For instance, when I was sitting on my bed on a rainy afternoon(can you believe it, on a rainy afternoon), I had nothing to do. My sister had gone horse-riding, my parents were out, and I was alone at home. It’s not a very nice, or good, feeling to be bored. My dog, obviously knew that I was bored, accordingly he sat himself next to me. As a result I started petting him. Before I knew it, I was playing catch with him. I spent the whole afternoon playing with my dog that I had almost forgotten that I had once been bored. My dog, is the best companion in the world!
The second reason for why I think that dogs are good, yet not so good, is because they are hard work. This is why dogs are not so good. One of the reasons for why dogs are hard work is because they have a lot of needs, just like us. They need to be fed, cleaned, washed, and more, every single day, exactly like us. They also need to have someone to play with all the time, not including sleeping, like us. Dogs need special temperatures and beds to fit their comfort, like us. They also have to have vaccines and haircuts at some point, just like us. They need to be taken to the vet if they’re sick, like us humans(in our case the doctor, not vet). If YOU are going to buy a dog then you need to think about this. Another reason for why dogs are hard work is because they need to be trained. Training can be frustrating and cause anger very quickly. If this happens, don’t shout at your dog or spank him, as they make mistakes too and have their own faults. Sometimes it’s easy to train your dog, and sometimes its not. This all depends on the breed and how you treat your dog. Like when my parents trained our dog, they sometimes shouted at him but lots of times gave rewards. Rewards are a very good idea. The breed of our dog was an english-cocker spaniel. English cocker spaniels are pretty easy to train as they used to be hunter dogs. If you want an easy dog to train, then you should take an english-cocker spaniel. Dogs might be good companions but are you a good companion? Dogs need to be watched and have a companion almost all the time. This can be challenging because the children who play with the dog need to go to school. For instance, when I am school, and my parents are at work, my dog is alone. You shouldn’t leave your dog alone at home, so we got a maid. The maid kept the dog company. This prevents my dog from being lonely. Thats why dogs are hard work.
Lastly dogs keep you safe and wash away your fear. They warn you if an intruder enters, which keeps you safe. For example, when my friend Thomas, was a small, little, baby sitting in his soft, and comfortable, cradle, watching the carpenter mend. When suddenly, the carpenter tried to touch Thomas, but Thomas’s dog stood in front of him and started barking and growling at the carpenter. His dog did this because when a dog gets to know you, they think you are a part of their special pack. The carpenter was in shock and decided to get back to his work, a good choice. This shows that dogs warn you if you are in danger or their is an intruder around, which keeps you much safer. Dogs also wash away your fear. As evidence, one of my mother’s friends was very scared of dogs. As a result she didn’t go near them. Soon she met our dog, as she had come over to our house, and she found out that dogs were gentle, harmless, creatures. Our dog was so very kind, and so very gentle, that now she isn’t scared of dogs anymore. In fact, now she likes dogs so much, that she has her OWN dog. This tells me that dogs wash away your fear, and another lesson that is learnt is that dogs are harmless, gentle, playful, kind, creatures.
Now that you know what a dogs strengths are and what its weaknesses are, now that you know the advantages and disadvantages, are you ready to have your, very, OWN dog? You know a lot of information on dogs, but its your choice. This essay holds lots of the important things that you need to know if you are going to get your own dog. However I cannot make you get a dog if you are still not ready for one. Though you better be ready to get your OWN dog now, because this is all that I can give you.
