Thanksgiving

Friday 21 November we were so lucky to celebrate early Thanksgiving in our classroom. The room mothers were amazing! We had pigs in a blanket, turkey, breadrolls, bacon wrapped sausages, springrolls, and a lot of yummy desserts!

Thanksgiving means to me to spend time with my friends and family.

I will be doing nothing special over the Thanksgiving holiday, except maybe having a playdate with my friend.

The best part of today was hanging out with my friends and eating some very good food.

United Nations Day

Today is United Nations Day for Grade 5, we will be celebrating a shared lunch and a whole grade level assembly.

I will be holding the Indian flag across the stage in front of everyone. This year our class is a flag bearer so I will be holding a flag. This is my first time celebrating U.N day in SAS and my first time being a flag bearer.

The food I would of brought in for U.N day is Indian food. I would of brought in Indian deserts, but most people would of found them too sweet. So I would of brought in patty's that are Indian( similar to somosa's).

I am wearing a lenga as I am Indian. It is a lenga that includes a long green top with a very colourful long skirt. I am also wearing a pink and gold dupata(scarf) and some shiny bangles.

I enjoy U.N day because I get to see people wearing their culturul clothes, I also enjoy tasting different types of cuisines.

My goals

Goals
Typing - I will improve my typing skills in 5th grade, I will practice typing for 30 minutes each week (3x per week for 10 minutes). I will type with the correct finger position and not look at the keys. I will know she has attained her goal when she has reached 35 wpm.

I will do and learn more typing by using the website typing training, and remember to do it everyday. I will always do it right before dinner, after my math, chinese, and piano.

Tavishi would like to improve on her planning in her writing. She will do this by using brainstorms, graphic organizers and pictures to help show others what her story is about. She will know that  her writing goal is achieved when most, if not all, of her writing is planned.

I will brainstorm and draw pictures before I write. I will also tell my mother to remind me if I forget to brainstorm as I still need to get used to planning.

She would like to recognize her Chinese characters. She will practise reading chinese characters with flash cards at home. She will know she has achieved this goal when she recognizes most of her characters being studied in class.

I will practice my chinese flashcards everyday and do my chinese homework every single day. I will do this after my math.

Christalite Medhodist Home

We went to the Christalite Medhotist Home where seniors without families lived. We went there to cheer up the seniors and make them feel like they still had a family. We needed to do something to cheer up the seniours so we thought of doing arts and crafts activities for them. There were 5 different groups and I was in the Minions group. If you don't know what Minions are they are characters from the movie Dispicable me. Anyway so all the groups had laid down their models and supplies on their own tables. My group, Camile, Sebastien, Nandita, Jazlyn and me got the first seniour. We figured out that we have to let the seniours do what they want and not tell them instructions that were hard.

These are the minions we made!

I enjoyed the presence and smiling faces of the seniours a lot when they had started doing the crafts. I also got a happy feeling when a lady came to the Minion group and made 4 Minions because she loved it so much! I also loved the smiling faces of the seniours when we sung our song.

I think the negative thing about our trip was that not too many seniours came though if any more had come to our group we would of run out. I also felt a little sad when the lady who had made 4 Minions said that she would be back but by the time we had left so she didn't get to take them.

What I found interesting was that even though the seniours had left there family they still seemed happy.
