Service Learning: Tuesday, 10th March

Today we had our second trip to the Christalite Methodist Home to do arts and crafts activities with the seniors. We decided that the theme of our arts and crafts would be celebrations.

My group made Easter eggs

The best thing about our trip today was that many of the seniors were engaged in our project and loved making it.

It was different from last time because this time the seniors sat at two tables and not one so it was a little harder as we had to go up and down and share the same materials. We had to split into two groups.

My biggest take away was that if you make one straight plan than it won't work because they have their own way and that you should make many plans so that they can pick which one they wan't to do.

Service learning semester 2

This semester we are returning to the Christalite Methodist home to do another arts & crafts activity.

My group members are Camille, Nicole, Lavenia, and me

My group activity is Easter eggs

We will do this by working as a team to do any work that needs to be done in class before we go and while we are there we will attend to the seniors and teach them how attach pipe cleaners, paint eggs, and draw on the eggs.

I'm looking forward to returning because it was fun to teach the seniors on how to make our art and see how happy they were when they finished their art even though they always made their own twist to the art.

Something I will do differently this time is maybe not think of one complete plan without any back up plan instead think of different plans in case one plan doesn't work out.

Christalite Medhodist Home

We went to the Christalite Medhotist Home where seniors without families lived. We went there to cheer up the seniors and make them feel like they still had a family. We needed to do something to cheer up the seniours so we thought of doing arts and crafts activities for them. There were 5 different groups and I was in the Minions group. If you don't know what Minions are they are characters from the movie Dispicable me. Anyway so all the groups had laid down their models and supplies on their own tables. My group, Camile, Sebastien, Nandita, Jazlyn and me got the first seniour. We figured out that we have to let the seniours do what they want and not tell them instructions that were hard.

These are the minions we made!

I enjoyed the presence and smiling faces of the seniours a lot when they had started doing the crafts. I also got a happy feeling when a lady came to the Minion group and made 4 Minions because she loved it so much! I also loved the smiling faces of the seniours when we sung our song.

I think the negative thing about our trip was that not too many seniours came though if any more had come to our group we would of run out. I also felt a little sad when the lady who had made 4 Minions said that she would be back but by the time we had left so she didn't get to take them.

What I found interesting was that even though the seniours had left there family they still seemed happy.
